Idaho House and Senate Leadership Establish the Idaho DOGE Task Force
Task Force to Focus on Government Efficiency and Accountability
April 10, 2025
In a unified effort to streamline state government operations, Idaho House and Senate leadership today announced the formation of the Idaho Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Task Force. This initiative is aimed at eliminating wasteful government spending, increasing accountability and improving operational efficiency across state agencies.
The DOGE Task Force will focus on three primary areas of concern:
1. Government Agency Consolidation – Evaluating and implementing strategies to merge redundant agencies and optimize resources.
2. Government Employee Travel – Reviewing and reducing unnecessary state-funded travel to cut costs.
3. Eliminating Unnecessary State Government Employee Positions – Assessing and restructuring government roles to ensure taxpayer dollars are spent efficiently.
The task force stems from House Bill 364 (H364), introduced earlier this year by Reps. Jaron Crane, R-Nampa, and Jordan Redman, R-Coeur d’ Alene. H364 sought to create a dedicated Idaho Department of Government Efficiency Task Force, targeting Regulatory Accountability, Budget Accountability, and Government Operations and Oversight. Despite gaining momentum, the bill stalled in the Senate.
While Rep. Jason Monks, R-Meridian, previously voted against H364, the Idaho House and Senate leadership now stand united in their commitment to the principles it championed. As a result, the Idaho DOGE Task Force is being established as an alternative path forward to achieve these critical government reforms.
“We have talked a lot about eliminating redundancy, cutting back on red tape and the responsibility we have to prevent waste,” said Crane. “Since 1974, there has been no reconstruction on Idaho’s government at all. The last time we looked at reorganizing the government and making it more efficient was under Governor Cecil Andrus.”
“Idaho’s Legislative DOGE Committee is a significant move towards streamlining government operations and enhancing State efficiency,” said House Speaker Mike Moyle, R-Star.
“Idahoans deserve a government that is efficient, accountable and responsive to their needs. This Joint Legislative DOGE Committee will make government work for the people of Idaho.”, said Senate Pro Tem Kelly Anthon, R-Rupert.
The DOGE Task Force will begin its work immediately, engaging with stakeholders, conducting audits and developing policy recommendations for the upcoming legislative session.
Idaho citizens and state employees are encouraged to follow the task force’s progress and participate in public discussions about the future of government efficiency in Idaho.
